Swansong

Swansong

A Poem by Neville

Swansong

I once thought I might live for ever

But your reading these words

Proved me wrong

So I thought I might write you a letter

But it turned into

Something of a prophetic swansong …

I think about this often brother Nev... I used to think of poetry as epitaphs but it did strike me one day that the act of reading a thing is like a time travel to a poets heart in the moments of their pennings. as I have read your thoughts and feelings and made them my own the indelible mark is impressed upon the witness long before they have passed and immortality is achieved long before our final stanza. well that's what the bunny saw in your lines anywho:)

Swansong.... I drifted to thoughts of Jen a very dear friend, two years gone. The last thing she did two days before she died was post on her Facebook account a photograph of two majestic swans gliding into an autumn sunset. I understood that to be her saying she was ready to join her husband who died five years earlier. They say swans do sing when they are dying. I wonder? Thank you for reminding me of a truly beautiful soul, much loved and missed.

Good morning
I did not know what a swansong was until just now. I love this concept & how you write about it with a bit of mystery. Many times in life, I did not realize I had done a swansong & those are the times we ponder as the big swansong is just outside our doors (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

there will be those who are reading our words long after we are gone...
"my baby just wrote me a letter"
"well she wrote me a letter said she couldn't live without me no more"

Imaginative piece here...open to much discussion of meaning.
