Some Things Should Not be Forgot

Some Things Should Not be Forgot

A Poem by Neville

Some Things Should Not be Forgot

Do you remember

those perfect

small unbroken circles

Lightly traced

back on back

like a figure of eight …

It was then

While wrapped in the

hug

of his silhouette

She could forget

For a moment about

Dylan,

blue robin eggs

and of course

those famous French

cigarettes …

Yes, at least for a while,

she maybe just might

After all,

it was only the husk

of her shadow

that was filled with

regret …

But nevertheless,

she still forced a smile

at a glimpse

of the sheen on a fledgling

wheatears cheek ..

Hey, someone asked

in a black tie

and a frock-coat

Had you ever seen eyes

quite so wisteria blue,

or for that matter

such shoulders so bronzed

and so strong

they all chorused …

But by then, the moment

had past,

She had gone to pay homage

and last respects

to a memory that still

held a glow …

Although to this day

the shadow it cast

followed on in her wake

like an old smitten craft

rowed home, but ever so slow ..

to pay last respects to a memory makes me feel that person was so extra special.
I know this feeling...I have a few people who fit that description for me...lost them years ago, and they are still with me every day...the memories linger like ghosts.

A spouses birthday too.
Or two subtract a few years from her age, or what she's thinking, or told you four years ago at three am when you were sleeping briefly, before that elbow sized bruise appeared on your ribs, or to just agree and save time, or... What were we talking about again? 😊
Just as well I have a photographic memory, although to be fair I should go digital, as I keep forgetting to put the film in.
A lovely and unforgettable memory indeed, Mr Whatsisname 😊

Unforgettable memories are ones of extreme happiness, but can also be ones of terrible sadness. I deleted my first review because on reading your poem again this morning I can see that going by the black tie and frock coat this must be a wedding day memory. How wonderful to reflect on the happiness of such an occasion. And yet there is a shadow? Shadows normally make a reader think of darkness and shade, but in this instance maybe the shadow is the groom walking through life in her wake. There is a great deal of love here that's for sure. Lovely poem Neville. You always leave space for the reader to ponder on meanings.
