On Being But a Poet

 

Beneath a small mound of large stones laid

is where he now lays ..

He would not have had it, any other way ..

After all, they said

he was a poet and neither king or goodly man

He sure could tell

a tale or two though, each one of them agreed

What makes this funny is that I just posted my status as "just a poet" before spotting this. And really that's all I am. I don't aspire to lofty heights or earth shattering revelations. I do attempt to appeal to humanity in all its sordid and glorious nomenclature. All our love, hate, fear, triumph, worry, excitement and every other thought or emotion pervading the human spirit. Those ties that bind, those are the threads I love to touch and touch often. Kings and "goodly men" are often highly overrated. But let's not be burying ourselves or our craft just yet. We still might have a thing or two worthwhile to say. Just keep telling those tales, my friend, and we'll all keep listening. Bless. F.

Yes the poet's ending. I want to be like Hemingway. Have chairs in taverns with his name imprinted.
