I will leave it entirely up to you ..

Olivetti Moments

 

While doing nothing

in particular ..

It suddenly dawned on me

we may never get rich

while I try to write poetry ..

But no doubt

in time though,

the parallels between us

will become more apparent

to those who

dare visit, the few words

I did write here ..

And since most of them now

seem to hang out on Hydra ..

Whereas we

make out daily on the beaches

and the balconies

of cheap Algarve hotels ..

Where it seems on occasion

that miracles’

do still happen ..

Since without fail, when I close

my eyes lightly ..

Through the flicker and blue

and sun warmed terracotta ..

I can still see you clearly

almost wrapped

in a white towel, but loosely ..

Just sitting in front

of my old Olivetti ..

Loading black and white film

into the back of

a borrowed Box Brownie ..

Seemingly intent on

catching such moments as these ..

Olivetti moments. I can remember learning to type on one of those Neville. Really had to depress the keys firmly and then slide the carriage back to start a new line. Loved the musicality of the typing. This piece has great visuals and takes the reader back in time. Early romance and early poetry all in the setting of the Algarve. It's a cold day today, but this poem actually gives me a warm feeling. Summer days and sun warmed terracotta does it for me. Enjoyed the read muchly. .
