Song for Gene Malloy

 

Because I love his words so

very much

I chose to write some more ..

                                                                

For a man 

they all call Gene Malloy ..

Now maybe,

it had nothing to do with

the tone of his

voice, or the gentleness

of his old

fashioned and principled

ways, but more

to do with the sawdust and

pitch of his

poetry and candle wax or

the scent

of woodsmoke and sage ..

Tho’ I guess

it might just be his poetry

plus maybe

a drop or two of engine-oil

that got stuck

in the back of my throat

upon opening

yet another filled page ..

I find this an interesting read. No idea who Gene Mallory was. Curious as to why you wrote about him?
I think it is clever of you to write about an actual person.
Makes that person come alive again.

Hello Neville... Just reviewed this poem and I like the way it flows; seems like you have an affinity for this gentleman, Gene Malloy, who is a poet with the choice of words and rhythm you enjoy...I like the phrase "I like the pitch of his poetry and dandle wax"... this obviously pleases you very much....so much that you choke up at the reading of his words.... I am sorry I haven't read his poetry yet, but I will research him...
