Dear John

Dear John

Dear John

Dear John,

Out here in the big wide world

of words

Take it from me

there is never an easy way

to say goodbye

Or for that matter to let another down

without inflicting

at least an element of pain

Which then invariably

leaves behind a sense of

either loss or shame

Take it from me

there is never an easy way

to say goodbye and you of course will know

Neither is there any place

for nepotism or ego masturbation

Oh’ and let’s not forget plagiarism okay

Dear John,

above all else remember

self pitying predators seldom survive

much longer than those on whom they prey

WOW! At first I thought this was about the garden-variety "Dear John" situation, but quickly I felt the venom to be more cerebral than heartfelt. I was wondering why this felt like more of a "lecture" than a goodbye message, but soon I found out. I haven't had one of these bad experiences lately, but a very good friend of everyone's here at the Café just messaged me this morning feeling down about being bad-mouthed here recently. I believe those that harass are jealous of those that have great promise. As you say in your final stanza, these people are losers & will never know what it feels like to have true connections thru writing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

When you have finished reading this please use the glue supplied to repair your shattered heart. I'll always love you but as a sister not lover.....
Little does she know the sister is the root cause, the loose elastic knickered sister, the dirty, pretty, younger version of his wife.
Hi Neville, plenty going on.

You just know it's the way ahead for John and Jane.
Dear John, you're history.

Direct and very much to the point, why hang about eh? Cheers Paul Bell, much appreciated, Neville
Ha... I know a couple of guys like that here. One of them is even named John. (and I bet that isn't a coincidence)

The last two stanzas are my favorite. Well done all around though. You brought a general concept and successfully applied it to a more specific place and time. That kind of thing always sounds easier than it really is.

Thank you, much appreciated....
and the irony is that they use the salutation, 'Dear"---

how dear is one who is about to have his or her heart broken.

You are so right....there is never an easy way to walk away from someone and say goodbye...especially if one of the two still wants a relationship. Yes, on text messaging and email people feel it is easy because they are cowards and don't have to face the other person. Still, it is a nasty situation. Predators? That is another story! Lydi**
