Prolet is the Bulgarian word for Spring, I think it trips of the tongue quite nicely in a little happy dance all of its own..... Wot do you reckon......

Prolet is a new word for me. It's good to use words from another language in your writing. I have on occasions used a little French or Latin in mine, because some of their words seem more appropriate to encompass the intended meaning. Your beautiful lines explain to the reader exactly what that word means to you. It is not merely a season, but captures all the emotions, uplifting, timeless freedom, bursting with new life, an injection of zest. No wonder you are looking forward to your holiday so much. I have never visited Bulgaria. Maybe I should Neville.

Prolet in Bulgaria is simply amazing. as it is anywhere I s'pose but just a tad special... I do so hope you will see for yourself one day... I have been thinking for a couple of years about inviting a small group of poets to join me there.. either fly out with me or join me in Sofia and then journey over to my place... so if you and up to a handful of poets are interested, send me a private message and I will see what we can be arranged .. there is a photo of the villa nevajilla on my photos page... Spring is a beautiful time of renewal. Plant sprouting and blooming. Birds chirping and singing. The world becoming colorful once more and the sun heating the air.
Five years down the line and happy to comment on this one again Neville. Timeless freedom and memories of Bulgaria must surely make the heart smile. Prolet, the only word in my Bulgarian vocabulary :) Perfectly lovely.
Prolet, it is the same word in Macedonian.
"пролет"
Don't you just love knowing more than one language?
The poem is beautiful and worthy of the title.

Ha ha that's the spirit.. you too my fine friend and poet :)))
The seasons are not just fleeting moments in time. That last a few weeks or months. But emotions, hearts and minds. That feel these weathering values more deeply.

Days growing longer, songbirds singing stronger
Prolet shifts the Sun. As the streaming northern breeze with each day looses teeth, and tender buds whisper of the arrival of Spring.
PS don't forget your coat that last tooth is sharp.

I hear you loud & clear! Living in close proximity to the Mexican border, we Californians are immersed in the Spanish language & I find "romance" languages to be much more lyrical than English. I love so many Spanish words & often use them in my writing, too. I like the way you explain your preference for the Bulgarian word by SHOWING instead of telling . . . glad you're enjoying spring in Bulgaria! (((NUGS))) Fondly, Margie
