she claimed she'd "lost" her virginity
but we knew the truth(of course)
when drunk she'd given it to Mustang
a man hung like a thoroughbred horse.

BLAME
She blamed it on the Bacardi
said it had gone straight to her head
this resulting in the devilish act
whilst spread eagled on his bed.

And neither can really remember
the ins and outs or ups and downs
so they named their daughter amnesia
a name which causes many frowns

Neville, this poem captures so brilliantly what we've become in America (and obviously beyond). I've spent 27 years in law enforcement (retired from the federal government and two years in uniform with a county agency), and I've never seen this more evident than this year. I don't like to stereotype any entire generation, but I must say it's more common with those in their 20s and early 30s who grew up with handheld devices and have never known life without instant information in a click or two. Then came the camera with the phone, and it's transformed how we treat each other.

In general, I find something deeper than laziness (to understand what's really happened) and selfishness (the desire to personally gain from another's demise). Many accept responsibility for nothing but expect credit or recognition they don't deserve. It's a cultural shift in this country, and it's disturbing.

I always admire how you can capture so much in a short, well crafted poem. This is another one.

Yes, any opportunity to make a buck. At the ready with the mobile. So many people acting like the paparazzi. (have I spelt that right?) Not just wanting to make money, but to gain more likes on the Internet. There is something very unsavoury going on where you'd rather film two police officers getting beaten up than try and get them assistance. Or circulate footage of the dying victims of a terror attack before their relatives have been informed. I could go on and on. We certainly have a sickness of morals around at the moment.
