A Poem by Nicolas Jao

A ghazal poem.

Step on stones in the creek, they have always been lifeless

Clouds in the sky are sweet but they are still lifeless

Hitting hammers, swinging axes, they do not feel pain

As hard as you can it won’t matter, they are still lifeless

Mountains in the distance, sun in the sky
A carnivore’s finished meal, on the ground lifeless

They may move and talk to you, and they may seem like us
But mechanics, screws, nuts and bolts still prove they are lifeless

Talented sculptor, accomplished in life, may have many feats

Statues, sculptures, marble figures, but they are still lifeless

A mystery it is for one, who wants to know what is
The truth about what makes things live and not be lifeless

For when I take a look at me, and stare myself in the mirror

Something I so easily see, something that is finally not lifeless

It's the cliche story. I've been writing since I was six, and it's a passion. I like to read, listen to music, watch the NBA, learn science and programming, and eat food. My favourite book is The Hous.. more..
