Ode to Winter's Radience

Ode to Winter's Radience

A Poem by NoelDressary

The still pure whiteness
That surrounds us all
Lies sleeping gently
Upon the frigid surface

A whisper of breath
Calls out in earnest from
The distant mountain peaks
It’s voice a soothing ballad

The stars above look down upon
The frozen beauty that rests below
Their celestial light casting an eerie glow
The watchful eyes of a million angels upon the land

Over the sharp peaks, a warm light beckons
As the sunlight climbs over the blackened summit
It casts it’s divine radiance upon the frosted landscape
Washing the cold stillness in its brilliant, angelic color

The rest of the pearly white fallen flakes
Is interrupted by the fiery goddess from above
Its holy light reflecting off the pearly whiteness
The faded stars of the defeated night
Retain their shine on its glittering surface

The sky ignites as the goddess scatters
Her ribbons of light across the pale blue
She pushes away from the mountain peaks
And raises herself above the spiked surfaces

The rays of warmth bring to life a sleeping land of still whiteness
Waters, once still as glass, undulate as its creatures awaken
A host of small, furry animals bound across the powdery ground
Tree branches rustle as birds flutter about them, singing sweetly

The mountains yawn and send another breeze from their peaks
The wintry air rejuvenates my senses and electrifies my blood
I take a deep breath, allowing the frigid morning air to rush in
My eyes spark with the icy chill, my ghost-like breath rises above

Surrounded by such bleak silence, such white nothingness
I’ve never felt so alive
