DAFFODILS A little Lockdown Lunacy

DAFFODILS A little Lockdown Lunacy

A Poem by Norman 223
"

Not quite what Wordsworth intended !!

"

I wandered, lonely as a cloud

(But only for the hour allowed)

And though the end of January's nigh

A wonderous sight then caught my eye.

For in a field,  remaining still

A solitary living daffodil,

Bereft, alone, it languished  there,

I perceived our loneliness we’d share.

“Good morning, daffodil”,  I said.

“How come, you’re not already dead”.

And I was quite convinced I heard it say.

“I’m isolating.  Keep away!....

Fain, I know you humans use two feet

Walking , hoping, companions to meet

But rules are rules,  woulds't stay I ask

Six feet away and wear a  mask….”

Thus, I deduce (with scant surprise)

That however hard that this poet tries

To fight this solace,  with time to kill

I'll ne'er  befriend this daffodil..

Your poem is manna for those bristling at each new lockdown. Your poem also describes why this whole covid thing has barely penetrated my reality. Out here in the boondocks, I only ever get to talk to daisies & geraniums anyway. Too hot here, too early in spring, to plant spring bulbs -- daffodils & tulips -- wish I could. It's always great to read you here at the cafe becuz you're one of the few still clinging to a robust & wry sense of humor! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Actually, I think Mr. W., if he knew of our situation now, might have highly approved of this humorous piece. Well rhymed, droll and dry, it's something to take our minds off the ongoing bad news. Liked it.
