Time is an Enigma

Time is an Enigma

A Poem by Norman 223

Time is…..Past, Present, Future, Forever.

We say it’s of the essence  -  yet where’s it’s taste or smell?

There are hands of Time, but never legs

Yet it marches on quite well.

And another small anomaly, which will always irritate

Is that we say that Time has length,

But no width,  or depth, or weight.

And, as for our baser instincts

We can even dare

To beat Time,  lose Time, sometimes even kill Time

But, Time is always there.

And then exception proves the rule

In a way that’s quite sublime

For when someone says…. Do you think you could……?.

That’s when there isn’t any time

'.. wich will always irritate ~ Is that we say that Time has length, ~ But no width, or depth, or weight. ' How very true is that.. apparently. Made me laugh! Time's always fascinated me, mainly cos it's there but invisible.. could be creepy but is, surely, a very welcome visitor?

Superb meter, superb concept, original thought, hints of wit: more than a finely conceived and presented poem, sir!

I always find it interesting that we want more time and yet we use it so poorly.

No matter what we do, time goes forward like a steam roller. Merciless, implacable, yet full of possibilities

So true, Kaylor. The problem is do we recognise those possibilities in time.....?

I just love this....

I agree with Sam....as kids days lasted forever, as older adults, they just fly by.
Time is not really our friend...
great Poem, Norman.

The attributes we assign to time (and many other things) sometimes don't fit so well. When young, I wanted time to pass quickly and always thought there was too much of it in front of me. Now, I wish I'd savored every second of its slow parade. Just think, Norm--if we were Redwoods, we'd still be in diapers. Good writing, my friend. It makes me think.
