In the air tonight

A humorous tribute to Phil Collins, on his retirement.

Phil Collins and I had a bet who'd be first to retire
Against all odds, he lasted one more night.
But our two hearts still beat in just one time,
and Phil text to say that he'd felt something in the air tonight,
and that I should get back out there for another day in paradise.
Despite our separate lives, Phil's an easy lover and sees both sides of the story.
Phil's music and my running share a groovy kind of love,
but you can't hurry love, you'll just have to wait,
it never came came easy, it's a game of give and take.

Author's Note

Challenge to write about Phil Collins' retirement, fitting in as many as possible of his song titles. Thanks for the tunes Phil, may your retirement be contented. Maybe old performers can't retire, forever compelled to strut their stuff, only pausing in death, resuming thereafter in spirit to eternity?

I am surprised he retired, I did not realize there was such thing for these classic performers. I enjoyed your poem it was fun to sing along and remind myself of the tunes I grew up on.
