Prologue

A Chapter by Ntandoyenkosi Ngcobo

The hot wind pushed the empty plastic bags
and newspapers high into the air making them
dance around in the sky like souls just granted
freedom and learning how to soar the skies.
The dry wind blew across the village from the
east bringing change to the once stale air. In
as much they tried to figure out the secret
brought by the wind nobody could pinpoint
the message it carried, their only wish was
that it bore the possibility of rain. As it
cleared the litter strewn all over it picked up
dust and a couple of viruses contained within
it sending them into them into the air. It let
loose some screws of the dilapidated family
buildings’ roof providing a glimpse into
closely guarded secrets. This wind was slowly
raging in a bid to knock down a tree or two
leaving in its wake families with no roof over
their heads. Yes, the wind could be that bad
as it brought drastic change to the once
peaceful landscape....
The power of the wind was evident in the
surroundings yet it was invisible, was it that it
drew its strength from invisibility? Noluthando
wished she could touch the wind as she
rushed to find shelter on her way from the
local river, she however found comfort in this
invisible force as its strength inspired her to
greatness. She envisioned being nursed by the
wind to greatness.
A smile ran across her face as she saw her
future clearly in her minds eye. This was just
the beginning.
