Distant Strands of Rain

Distant Strands of Rain

A Chapter by Nusquam Esse

There,
In those wisps 'tween
Heaven and Earth
Grey, ephemeral
amorphous strands
Upon the horizon
an eddied uplift of clouds
transmuting the downpour

I saw
Your cascade of hair trailing
through my thirsty fingers
I smelt
A mnemonic breath of life
echoing lethean silence in death
I heard
Your veiled whisper in my ear
but muted thunder in my heart
I wept
Tracing a time I held you near
yet so distant to me

Grey, ephemeral
amorphous strands
Beyond
Heaven or Earth

This beautiful poem of loss touched a chord with me. It reminded me of the moments after a loved one’s heart stopped beating and I knew they were on a new journey.
