Wall

Wall

A Poem by Shayne Harnden
"

Heaven help these people.

"
Daddy said to be strong
He said people needed him
So I had to stay here with Mommy
He said he won’t be long

The Earth got angry today
It shook everyone
Forcing us to run
Behind this wall we will stay.

Homes began to burn
And buildings began to fall
The ocean’s waves begin to crash
Smashing against this wall.

After a few moments the water draws back
I tell Mommy there is nothing to worry
It was plain to see
Now the water is gone
But why does these people seem to be in such a hurry

Mom looks in the window
She says not a word
For what she is able to see
All she does is come back and hug tightly
Repeating that she loves
Our Daddy, my sister and Me

Within moments I hear a sound
Water crashing against the walls
This time the walls do not hold
My family and I are thrown to the ground

The water takes my mother out to sea
Everyone is gone
But I am not scared
Because there is a glowing light holding
Tightly against me.

I am in Heaven now
So do not fear
I see Mommy, Sister,
All From the Town
Everyone is Here

Everyone left behind need you Daddy
For them You have to be strong.
We will wait here
Where you left us.
For us the time apart
You won’t be long.

God Bless you Daddy.

OMG! This made me cry.. I know such sadness comes from the storms like this. Lives lost so may times, and lately even more so.. You write with such passion, imagery had me there all along.. Your ending lines, well lets just say they really got to me..

Well done.

The lost of life from the power of Nature is scary. I done clean-up with the Army for Hurricanes and earthquakes in the nineties. Your poem tells a true story. Whole towns can disappear in minutes. You wrote the poem without fear and turmoil. It real life. It is only fear to survive the next few minutes and keep the family together. A very good poem. Thank you.
