The Government of my Country

The Government of my Country

A Poem by Olumegbon

For too long, we've been gullible,
Got a government that's not reliable,
They executed the ones that are admirable.
The ones alive are no longer audible,
Honestly the situation is horrible,
The sleaze in the administration is visible,
The vibrant youths are jobless,
And that's terrible.

I admit that everyone is fallible,
But their ways should be palpable.
We no longer see the sun,
Our seed of hope is gone,
There's no future for our sons,
Our trustees has stolen our resources,
They ride us like horses,
Covering our mouth as we bear our losses ,

My country,
In its zone is assumed to be the biggest tree,
Sadly harbours citizens that aren't free.
I don't see any change and its not strange,
The political system is deranged.

I've been reading and enjoying your words.
The last word in the penultimate stanza should be losses.
The last word in the second line of the second stanza- palpable - is awkward in this context, imho. I would suggest plausible, fwiw.

You depict a relatable picture that is all too familiar in many other countries (even the ones that are much better off too...there is still some corruption). It is truly heartbreaking for those who have to pay for someone else's misdoings, those who are less fortunate.

Olumegbon, I am not all that familiar with your country's governmental system, but the conditions of which you write are indeed hard to imagine and probably even harder to accept. Your writing is very reflective of your disdain for the wrongs being foisted on your citizenry, and I can only hope, for you, that the conditions somehow improve. I saw your friendship request and will gladly accept it. You write very well, very expressive and eloquent; it's easy to see that you have a lot to say through your writing. take care...dan

Here in USA, the same things. What can we do? Rich men run the government leaving the poor people without support. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome.
I don't know much about politics but I guess it's everywhere the same with them, just using the system for their own goal. Well said and written. :) Rudi
