STEPS OF EXERTION...BREATH OF DELIGHT

The fall air is so cool and crisp I can almost

eat it like candy, and snow-crowned mountains

beckon me..."come."  'Round every curve lies

something more alluring and beautiful than the

   last as the frigid air fills up my longing heart.

I'm never more at peace than when at altitudes

   which require deep and faster breathing...more at

  ease with laborious steps of difficult exertion.

         Perhaps I was born for this...so precious to my

         sight are the lodge pole pine far below.

Reaching the peak of Flattop Mountain I sit to

wish on lucky stars and dine among the breaths

   of angel wings that birth my souls' thanksgiving.

ohhhhhhh beautifully written Ms. Sharon! so happy i did not miss this one from you... i lived in a cabin (for a time) just outside Estes State Park ... hippie years ;) but those mountains' call is everlasting for those who are born for it .. in reading i was vicarious with you ma'am .. tasting that candy and breathlessness from high altitude .. loved the read .. thanks for sharing!
