A Poem by Ookpik

There is something to be said of serenity

That separates itself entirely from simple tranquility.

Serenity is a solace,

A sense of resignation that transcends that of calm;

There's a surrender to serenity that supersedes the deep, slow breath

And instead carries a resonant echo that fits into the aspects of restlessness as seamlessly as a key.

There is an unseen depth to serenity,

An acquiescence to the storm and a solemn, unshakable satisfaction

Wrought by the introspection from within its eye.

A subtle knowing,

A soft forgiveness,

No struggle,

No escape,

Just a gentle sense of acceptance

Where once there was turbulence within its wake.

Thanks Pete, that's kind of you to say and it's very much appreciated : )

This is a heavy one which touches on themes that have long fascinated me. What is described here is the effect of the human self's (ego's) final willingness to let the world be what it is. All spiritual pain is the result of the ego's attempt to impose its will on Being, which inevitably ends in failure, and sometimes in despair. Serenity results when surrender leads beyond despair.
