A Poem by Ookpik
"

Something has been done to my account that eliminates space between lines. I'd feel obliged to complain but it's a nice change of pace.

"
Coffee, Cigarettes,
The Holocaust and Chernobyl -
It's like I'm seeing the images for the first time.
The scale,
The merciless scale of human suffering,
The incomprehensible color of all those lives melted into moments.
I used to think I had endured enough
But when I see the photographs,
When I see the little details
That paint our portrait,
The looks on faces,
The clothing,
The involuntary twitches,
I realize that I have endured nothing
And that our era of broken souls is but a crack in the fissure
Of what can really be done to one another.

wow, makes us think...and it is so often the case...when we think we have it bad, we see the suffering others are incurring...and what we have is nothing in comparison...we are actually lucky...

potent poetry here.

A lot of insight in this one. What we are dealing with now pales beside the horrors of the past.
