A Poem by Anna Auel

For no reason at all

It is summer
so we walk outside
take trips to the gas station
The two of you meet
for no reason at all
(you tell me not since high school)
on  a street uneven
with bricks that to trip
for no reason at all

on our way we pass
a white bicycle with flowers in the basket
for no reason at all
and a discarded sweater
(the white rendered mushroom by streetlight)
for no reason at all

his face in the shadow
      yours in the light
he"as I know him
assembling  from a blur
crayon stubble, sepia skin wayward hair and terra cotta eyes
"extends a hand reaches
and takes your face
brings it in close  to plant
a soft kiss on your cheek

for no reason at all
