On My Father

On My Father

A Story by Philip S.

Written for my father on his birthday.

Today is my father's birthday. He is a man of wisdom, with the silver and gray on his head that bear witness. He is a partner to my mother, and a Man stable and steadfast. I don't wish him a happy birthday, but I ask our Loving Father: if He is willing and by the grace of Jesus Christ - to honor my father and lift him up on this day.

As a child, he showed me how to act. As I grew, he disciplined me with a parent's love - one I have yet to fully understand with experience. When his path was contracted - he didn't run. No - he answered the call of fatherhood, and he never gave up. He bore up under me and his family; he did then and he does now. Persevering is my father, in the love and care and deep affection for our lives; Thank you Father.

When I remember my fathers birth today, I remember it was not me who brought myself into this world. It was my True Father; who submitted me in a progression of men, of which I now stand at the end.

As I yield to the first born, the life and grace of Jesus Christ - may my fathers tried and proved life be a portion of my growth and advancement: a portion behind my increasing position in the long and narrow line of true Men.

(If you look way up there ... keep going ... Ahead of those Men there ... Thats my Dad. What's amazing - is he's standing right beside me as well. From Father to Son, to father to son. Thanks Dad)
