The Power of Putrid Love

The Power of Putrid Love

A Poem by PandaPeaceful

It was you all along,
wasn't it?
The one who ripped my
heart out of my chest,
and promised me love.

But games were your language,
and I was the obedient player.
Your rules trapped me.
I was suffocating,
breathing only for your scent,
but you always smelt of her.

How I wish my dignity wasn't
a reflection of you.

How I wish I could say you have
stolen my voice,
when I know I gave it to you.

How I wish,
I could forget you.

How I wish,
I could escape you.

The second stanza... Make the whole poem like that, with that voice, that rhythm, and I'll go post this everywhere.
I've been in similar (yet still very different) circumstances, and I know how hard it is to make someone else really FEEL what it was like to be torn to shreds...by them, and by yourself, the remains of dignity buried under shame, with a layer of "how could you?" mixed in.
And obviously you got that across.

Love is one painful thing. It does take away a part of you.

Thank you! I'll see you .. read more

Ouch. Stinging pain in this. Tainted love never leaves us with any pleasantries. Every memory of putrid love is poisoned by it's own death.
Nicely done.

I thank you greatly!
Normally I'm not crazy about "victim" state of mind, but here you've stated it so well, so realistically, I can't help but admire your word crafting, even if I want to give this narrator a kick in the butt to move along & embrace the rare gift of living! I wasted so much of my life pining in such useless ways, which you've shown us with such gut-level feeling, this is why it makes me crazy to read it, wanting to prevent all the young ladies out there from doing this stupid waste of energy for far longer than we should! *sigh!* Here's wishing you & your loved ones a fun Christmas (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yikes, being held prisoner by love is a tragical thing, to be sure. I've been there before, and it's not a pleasant thing. Dignity is all but gone during those times.
Fifty years ago, and I still remember my imprisonment.
This is a wonderful, well expressed piece of work that many of us can relate to.(ending a sentence with a preposition...shame on me). Thank you so much for reminding me.

That's a tough learning curve of betrayal.
Great title.
Onwards, and upwards.

mmmm strong words there..
guess when we knowingly give in to some one we know we are going to be hurting soon...
