Glass Case

Glass Case

A Poem by Kathryn Smith

Eyes locked

I sit in your pickup

In your passenger seat

We gaze

We yearn

and melt

Your bed

I stand

You watch below

I smile

And reach out to

touch you

But I have made

A glass case around you

For you are married

To the church

Yet our fingers press

And wind together

Entwined

Holding hands

Our hearts together

In spirit

My shoulders you rub

My voice you treasure

But still a glass case

I must remember

I want to smash it

To pieces

To bits

So we can love

And I can soothe

Your troubled mind

I loved you

from day one

I've loved you

All this time
