A vow to the hands on the face of a clock

A vow to the hands on the face of a clock

A Poem by Tyler Hipple
"

Meant for a girl who no longer loves me

"
You are like clockwork
A masterpiece of metal and motion constructing radiant thought
Your mind, gears crafting dreams of glass houses and broken window frames
Your heart, and light and intricate piece like that of a pocket watch

You are the strings on a violin as well as the music they produce
So girl I beg you, take my bones
Use them as bows so that we may make our own symphonies
A two person orchestra making love just loud enough to hear

There won't ever be perfect seas for us to sail on
But I promise I'll take these waves for you
I'll build churches and chapels out of shipwrecks and sand
On islands set on the back of faith in your God

So wound me, love, wound me
Rip out my heart through my throat
Fill the hole inside with sawdust and empty promises
Listen to it beat as if it's humming some old refrain

Give me something so that I may carry on
Feed me fistfuls of glass crafted from the gears in your mind
Grasp my spine as if to make music from my bones
Make love to me, disregarding the hands on the face of a clock

We are alone together and in time it will have been forever
So shout to the stars and beg for different dreams
Beg for different sand to mold stronger glass
Making vows to the hands on the face of a clock
