Flight of Fancy

Flight of Fancy

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen
"

Sometimes life can be a hard taskmaster.

"

Blow cold wind, blow like hell's iced breath,

cast off this coil and bring me death,

as my cold bones split and crumble

to ash, as dark witch's mumble.

For in those mists of fretful days

cloud shadows o'er my wretched ways,

such dark regret and guilt of sin

that pierce my soul from deep within.

And as I fell back to the earth

waxed feathers melted round my girth,

leaving me alone and naked

knowing that I was thus fated

to lie among the scourge of men

to die and die and die again!

dear John... we do live a "flight of fancy"... and when we
reach a point where Heavens gate is open wide... we
need to forgive ourselves for past mistakes... before we enter
into the Spirit world... where a new existence presents itself.
We will encourage others on earth to appreciate the seasons of
new birth on earth from a celestial viewpoint. A Cameo of Light.
Amen... Pat

Ah Pat a well said prayer. We humans must have hope, whatever the cost. Many thanks.

It is absolutely beautiful John, I loved the flow and rhyming in this continuity of assertion. The struggles of existence at times seem like thousand ends yet it still goes on .

Indeed those struggles continue for many when death might be the preferred release. Many thanks.
This is an emotive poem, John. The last line especially feels quite passionate in the despair.

I like the way you allude to the Icarus story, but the twist here is that the speaker goes on living after disaster in a kind of state of perpetual death. A lot of symbolic possibilities in there.

I, like the others, was also impressed by your form. It feels effortless when I read it. Has that satisfying gallop of a meter poem. Nice work on this.

Thank you so much Eilis. I Like to attempt different forms.
A structured write from you in perfect rhyme and meter. You have done this so well John. Just goes to show although you write in free verse most of the time, you can surprise us all with one of these delights. Great work.

A poem that conveys the wretched horrors of absolute vulnerability, particularly when brought on by our own foolish or selfish acts. Fate or not, life is much about suffering, and some certainly get more than others. The references to cold, nakedness and falling present images we can also feel in your words. A remarkable piece worth reading a few more times to fully appreciate.

I relate to your interpretation here RE. Many thanks.
Very well written. Life is full of choices made and not. It hardly helps to regret. All we an do is move forward, with eyes forward to a better destination, learning from our past mistakes. I really loved the fluidity of this poem. Your rhyme and meter are superb. Well penned!
