The Long and Winding Road......

Life is short, love endures.

The breeze carried lilac and basil and sage

but the garden was barren,

the cause of much rage.

 

I looked for the roses, the lilies and pinks

only to find a nudge

and several winks.

 

That canvas was empty and the palate was pale,

so that one couldn't find

the strength to prevail.

 

Such confused emotion is so hard to take,

little wonder then that

it led to a break.

 

But our life has a meaning, one we've both touched

far too precious to lose,

too dear to be ditched.

 

Perhaps it's time to revisit that feeling

to forgive and forget,

enjoy the healing.

I know this song I think. Its the Beatles. Everyone loves the idea of lovers reunited and I find it very romantic too. The way you wrote this really makes the reader wonder why we miss out on the joys these connections, if revived can bring us, given that life is so short anyway. This especially holds true if the tuning was that special. Then again, both hearts must beat in tandem for love to begin the long, winding journey back home. It is a homecoming indeed.

What a song to begin with, and it's true. We tend to go the long way before we realise love was waiting where we left it. It is amazing the amount of people who get back together years later after finding their new life wasn't what they expected.

There are times, when we want to let go, just let go off everything and fade into oblivion. But then, it's something within us, around us - love that endures, heals us, gives us strength to be back on our feet to enjoy this little short journey of life with winding roads, bumps and scenery along the way.

Like these lines a lot, very true!

It's hard to read your title & NOT hear the song instantly. I love how you depict the way a long friendship can wax & wane over the years with sparkling realistic details. I like this a lot John. Simple structure and rhymes work well. Life and love are a long and winding way. Sometimes the best plan is to follow a different road but I do believe these things need working on.
