Those Days

Just my own take on celebrating the beautiful song from Cats, "Memory" whose words are irreplaceable in their beauty and description of what it means to grow old.

I remember those days of lying in the sun
when life seemed simple and sweet.
No thought of tomorrow
unaware of the sorrow
that with each heartache it brings.
But time has a way of slipping by
and soon  memories grow dim.
Those happier days often melt away
into pools of sadness and gloom.
Yet even through the darkest hour
there is a light that is shining still
bearing hope and promise of a new tomorrow
when sadness lives no more.

If ever there were lyrics to curl the toes yet touch the heart ... hauntingly wonderful!

Your poem holds such sad emotions, Dara - a longing that seems so far away, yet.. lingers as though there are too many shadows you just can't shake away. Until... until you feel a touch, a nudge of something safe and gentle, blessed and beautiful hope reaching out from a special source. Was so relieved to reach those two final phrases, to realise that you hadn't lost the way! Dara needs to find a smile drifting pon the dawn. Please.

I think Holy Week influenced this write for me and it is also the week, several years ago that I lost my dad and a dear friend. Thank you dearly, sweet friend! There is hope of a brand new day dawning, a chance for rebirth and at the very least, no more pain for those who suffer. My father lived a wonderful life for 89 years but suffered greatly in the end. Now there is no more suffering, no more pain. Many thanks again for your compassion and caring!

Saw "Cats" at the Fox Theater in St. Louis...what a wonderful musical...and what a wonderful poem you have written, paying tribute to it...
and that song...I love listening to Barbra Streisand sing it...

wow....my folks retired to Whispering Pines, NC...gone now...but that is where they lived...and my sister lives in Deep Gap...

Those are both really nice places in NC. I am particularly fond of the area surrounding Deep Gap because of the mountains. Small world sometimes isn’t it? :-)

yes, very much so....and yes, my sister's place is not easy to get to...it is right near boone...but she lives in a place with the neighbors unseen, they are in a valley...no internet, no phone service most times....pretty crazy...
but pretty.

She sounds like an adventurous person. Yes, very pretty and Boone is an interesting little community. Many artists live in the area.
