Memories of Summer

Memories of Summer

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

shooting stars and sands of time...

"
Summer romances are like shooting stars...
a spectacular moment of light when
the tide goes out and holds you tight...
with the sands of time nipping at your toes
Memories of closeness and promises made...
only to be broken as the sunset fades

Embraces of tenderness and shadows of smiles...
will linger through the crispness of autumn
and even when snowflakes cover the sand...
and seagulls haunt the snowcapped waves
Melodies of Vienna waltzes and violin strings...
will keep me within the ambiance of your love

pretty tough to dance and be sad at the same time ... a graceful poem all the way through ..especially enjoyed the pulling of the tide on me toes in the sand ...clear memories of such things spring up ..i remember the where the when and the ocean, gulls and twilight ... just no one to dance with ;(
but that was ok...i gave myself over to the moon and stars ... and that wonderful floating sea gull ...and their cries punctuating the distance :) so glad to read this one this moening my friend ..you gave me a precious experience

Your poem brings to mind my habitual melancholy, come autumn. Having grown up by a recreational lake, there was an influx of young people every summer to work the summer jobs, always with the predictable summer romances as you describe with such flowing fluency! You totally nail it, how the briefness of summer changes these encounters to be more intense, even tho we hope it will last beyond summer, in our hearts we know the intensity will fade. Your second stanza, even tho you try to celebrate coming seasons, holding onto summer love, I sense a bit of fading too. But it doesn't turn into a wretched melancholy, only a pining & a longing for those missed times (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Pat, this is truly sublime, that summer love in the veins is hard to shift and when the moment comes to move forward, the sunset seems to lose its colour...sigh...this is a beautiful poem :)

You had me at the first line, and the last two were such a charmed finish. Love the snowflakes covering sand. It's a bit bittersweet and perfectly delectable.

this moved me much...reminds me so much of a certain person in my life...we were so young..winter came too soon...but we weren't really ready to hold on to that summer...

looking back...maybe we should have dressed better for autumn...we might have had many seasons together.
