Goldfinch and Thistledown

Goldfinch and Thistledown

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

After a summer romance, goldfinch pair off with a mate...

"
Collecting thistledown for nesting
shy Hibiscus smile and blush
sweet songs by Woodthrush...

Goldfinch wearing colors of falling leaves
dance and sing as squirrels breathe
the autumn fragrance of Halloween...

Pumpkins are placed in rows
for smiling children to play
musical chairs with prizes given...

Geese fly overhead on piano keys
of a Steinway grand softly touched
with the sound of northwest winds...

Chrysanthemums in pastel shades of
magenta and lavender relax in potted
virtues of inherited prestige...

This is like a sensory party full of imagery! I love the way your descriptions hop from one thing to another from stanza to stanza, the way our attention flutters & stops on one thing or another as we enjoy the outdoors, not to mention birds hopping from this to that. Your metaphors are striking: musical chairs, grand piano! I started out expecting a bird love story, but this ended up being more of a widespread celebration of autumn (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This reminded me of a home we pass during Halloween week that is decorated to the hilt. Even spider like webs in their trees, it is awesome to view. Valentine

As often you fill your poem with colour and sweet activity, shadows brighten, comparisons meld and at the end there's an admiring and happy, happy sigh of delight. This really is a hug of happiness. Thank you!

The colors are so beautiful....and the music. When you write, you are ultra poetic, my friend. I could picture the children at a Halloween party. Those were the days....sweet memories. Lovely thoughts here. Lydi**

dear John... I appreciate your review of
"Goldfinch and thistle down". It seems as
