S'mitten

S'mitten

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Purring softly s a Kitten

"
Once upon a time I met a Cowboy with eyes of blue.

strumming an old Guitar...

He had a voice that stole my Soul.

It was an emotional storm that raged within

the seasons of my life where snow storms abide.

We danced beneath the Moon's caress where

falling Stars landed on the breast of desire.

We rode along the sands of time on a Steed

whose stride was long and a Cowboy took a wife.

Now as the snow falls silently across the plains...

We bid you Bonne Noel

Certainly sounds smitten to me, Pat.

I wonder what it was truly that drew you in? The eyes, the voice or just the ruggedness of a Cowboy? Perhaps all three combined to whisk you away on your magic carpet ride of love.

You have described these emotions very eloquently and its something that every one of us hopes to have a taste of at some point of our lives.

Another lovely write, Pat, and best wishes for the coming festive season.

Beautiful...once in a while we find that one soul that steals everything inside of us that we cannot even feel ourselves anymore...if we have it we need to hold onto it ...wonderful 🌹

Today I meant to tell you I watched the DVD "Days of Heaven" & it was worth the $24, with a 40-pg booklet describing everything about filming, director's work, actors, etc. Richard Gere & Sam Shepherd are so young, almost unrecognizable! This movie reminds me -- "Of Mice & Men" with Gary Sinese -- done in a similarly artistic way, to celebrate the land & its creatures, as much as to tell the story. This is what I tried to do in my upcoming book, to celebrate my own beloved hills within the framework of a story. Anyhow, the film is done in such an artistic way, some might not find it to be a compelling way to tell a story. But for someone like me, I love watching an artist tell a story in a unique & unexpected way. All this brings me to your poem here . . . I cannot believe this is the poem I find from you in my reading list (trying to catch up, it's two months long) . . . this poem is so parallel to the film I was planning to tell you about! The farmer falls in love . . . that's all I'll say. Your chosen details here are the exact ones which play to my heart like a mountain man strumming his guitar atop mustard rock (from my book). I'm all mixed up now, soaring between this film, your poem, & my book. It's all becoming a miasma of pleasure & I'm not coming out! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Oh what eyes of blue and a voice of velvet, singing country can do to a girl's heart. You know Pat I can remember Glen Campbell when I was about 18 and how he made me weak at the knees. I didn't get a cowboy either but I have no complaints with my engineer. He is a Mr Fixit:) This is a charming poem and sprinkled with nature's gems makes it even better.

I've known a few real working "cowboys" in my life and a few rodeo bull-riders and bronc busters. I don't think any of them would fancy being called a "dude". That insult might cost a fellow a few teeth. lol But I enjoyed the romantic feel of this piece and the happy ending. Very sweet stuff.
