Wild and Free on a tree Branch

Wild and Free on a tree Branch

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

As I experience each day.

I fly high as a Northern Flicker...

dressed in latest fashion in

black and brown feathers...

My hat is a reddish gold where

my senses are forever bold...

No one ever figures my riches

are butterfly sparrow songs and the

sound of buzzing bees in honeycombs...

I haven't read anything at the cafe in a month or two & this title made me click on your poem as the first thing I'm reading, upon returning! I love this. I really see myself in it, all the way! I am this free & wild bird, sitting on my branch, preening my feathers for absolutely nobody, but just becuz it feels so good to be alive! I love how your poetry taps into that spirit of living in vast freedom like the featheries do! Here's hoping everything is going well for you & that this pandemic biz hasn't impacted you or your loved ones (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Beautiful imagery and such a lovely exemplification of the Zen concept of wealth beyond the material. No one can own the sound of buzzing bees but you and I are both rich with it. This poem reminds me of my favorite poem in the world, an ancient Chinese series of poems called "the 10 bulls".

Hello, dear petal! Yet again you nudge me to learn another of your country's birds.. and is lovely, as is your poem. You have a gentle way of saying, LOOK! And I did,... then re.read your lovely words and can now sit down a while, close my eyes and see your poem come to life. Thank you so very much. Love to you all, keep safe. Please.

Dear Pat, I googled Northern Flicker to find out more about this avian friend. You have personified this bird and I love your lines. You have me flying high this Saturday morning with you. Sending warm wishes. I love the posted image of you and your dearest. It has got to be. Now there's two birds of a feather who stick together :)

You are welcome dear Pat.
Very enjoyable Pat
unfortunately, we do not have the Northern Flicker in our area but we are blessed these days with a hoard of new babies being fed by busy mothers!
The cutest of these is the chickadee with the splash of white on their cute cheeks
Ain't it grand

My mind took a left turn at fashion and diverted me into thinking that the birdsong soundtrack, when translated would read... "And here's Pat in this years must have feathered number", while the paparazzi clicked away.
But to be truly free, there wouldn't be any paparazzi 😀
If our days were filled like this Pat, we'd all smile a little more I think.
