Wisdom of the Ages

Wisdom of the Ages

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Tartness and sugar mix gently... with laughter...

"
Hot freshly brewed Himalayan coffee

with passionate rhubarb sugar kisses...

as a fashionable Lady prefers with cream...

I have a dream that lives within my

imprisoned Monastery imagination...

Will the quiet alcoves of prayer bring

a rich and devout love of people who  are

disenfranchised... the poor and elderly...

The richness of Age where berries ripen

with enchanting flavor of persimmons

sprinkled with nutmeg and enchantment...

I think we are all feeling like monks at the moment...living in some monastery world, separate, praying for relief...Praying for those who are sick, or poor, who are cold and hungry, dying in more ways than one.
the alone time gives us pause for reflection.

Your dream is mine as well. I have visited a few monasteries, both abroad and in the U.S.; they are very spiritual people, silent, calmness transcending; they are true humanitarians; living frugally, who would engage in giving, even though it's not the riches but their innate kindness and spirit; as opposed to the driving force of wealth and misunderstanding of opposing classes' no rhubarb kisses with cream.
Truly yours, Betty

On the spot Pat!!
This really IS the wisdom of the ages! Some people may claim that, but you deliver the real deal! Being a non-conformist, I don't get too waxy when I read prayer-like sentiments written in the typical "Christian-ese" . . . that's why I love this prayer statement becuz it's a million miles away from that. You paint the prayer scene as it really happens along one's daily trek of dalliances . . . a prayer here & a prayer there . . . everyday language, encompassing the thrill of what's surrounding, as much for what's weighing heavy within. This is what real prayer looks like, in my book! Plus, I agree & I pray for the disadvantaged too (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yes, we all pray for those who are disadvantaged, ill, or in need of love. This pandemic has been hard on us all, but more so on those who have no support system. Such a compassionate write, Pat. Lovely. Lydi**

Well, I'm all for a good cuppa coffee of a morn and do enjoy a hike, but Himalayan is pushing it a bit fae Pat 😉
All the rest sound delightful though and even the mention of them bring a kaleidoscope of scents that leave me salivating.
The simplest of pleasures and good company for all isn't too much to ask for surely? Speaking as an older and teny bit wiser me, who feels blessed that I at last have a reason not to rush, but to enjoy the small things while they are happening.
It's only 4am here, but coffee and cinnamon toast is coming right up 😊

dear folks... a World where life is precious is
filled with poets of discretion... who love the taste
of Autumns berries and fruits sun-ripened with tartness.
If only we can be the recipients of love and devotion. gently, Pat
