Haven for Fashionable female Cardinals

Haven for Fashionable female Cardinals

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

In the midst of Winter, we have a Bed and Breakfast very high up in tall Fir Trees... that offer the warmth from the Chimney smoke on cold Winter nights...

"
After a Season of raising young fledglings ...

the graceful gentle female Cardinals have a Shelter

in the tall Fir trees that surround our Vintage home...

The trees are very old and have branches weathered

and softened by the gentle rain ... the soft green needles

have embroidered a lovely getaway for deserving female

Cardinals and their fledglings by their side as snow falls softly...

The females have raised their "brood" of male fledglings and

sent them off to learn from their Father how to survive

the Winter like a Bomber ready for a fight to gain a right to

their Sovereignty among the different Breeds from other Countries.

Charity begins at home... and Birds from abroad can learn by

example to find their own domain and plant a Garden by dropping seeds

and reaping the Harvest when the Moon is Golden and full...

So they come Full Circle when Peace on Earth is finding a Home

at Christmas when Yule logs burn with the scent of Balsam and Cloves...

Cardinals are among my favorite birds... I have a cardinal chess set LOL I think you would love it:) I have a cardinal that lives nearby and nothing compares to spotting him in the days after a snowstorm his bright red wings juxtaposed to the fresh white snow is always a vision to behold! merry Christmas dear Patricia:)

Hello dear Pat and you are welcome my dear friend.
and the circle remains unbroken ... the cardinals do stand out this time of year. On me dog walks with Beauregard the Beast, we catch couple flitting among the bare oak branches ... foliage usually keeping all the bird activity quite hidden. A guest a few years ago commented "Where are the birds .. there are no birds around here" .. my reply is that Mike! you have to stand still for a while ... and quiet your head .. look ... and you'll start to see them :)))))))))))))))))))

You too Pat to you and yours a safe happy new year.
I've never seen a cardinal, but your poem imbues the bird with not only a sensory flourish, but also a strong sense of identity & personality. I rarely read your poems as having an underlying message that has nothing to do with your obvious message, but this poem seems to have some slight undertones of patriotism. As always, you bring the outdoors alive with personification, but in this poem, it feels more present than usual! Strong commanding presence! Here's wishing you a Happy New Year! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

We see many Cardinals around our place in the mountains of NC...such a stark contrast between the white snow and their red feathers. You certainly are a bird-watcher! But there seems to be more to this poem; it's like humans who have babies and then teach their young by example, just like the birds...and it comes full circle, just as you said. A lovely poem as always Pat; take good care, Best, Betty
