Indigo Buntings and Sunflowers

Indigo Buntings and Sunflowers

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Summer symphonies among the flowers...

"
On an overcast day where Crepe Myrtle pray...
Sunflowers reach for Clouds that float
in an Ocean of Blue...
The Breeze becomes the Song of Autumn leaves
falling like feathers when fledglings fly to

 Sycamore trees...
Feeders are full of Sunflower seed where
Indigo Buntings preen their feathers and
complain about the Weather...
After the Rain drops cover the Roses

with Kisses of sweet perfume...
the Boughs of Nests cradle the Buntings
in Melodious waves of Summertime Blues...

It threw me that the rhyme and meter lasted exactly one line, I was all warmed up to flow with more of it...
In a way, that perhaps made me pay more attention thereafter.
The theme is wonderful and natural and inviting. It makes me think you are a gardener of flowers as well as of words.

Dear Pat, you paint such a beautiful image here. I can see those sunflowers stretching their necks up to reach the sky's ceiling. I just adore their fabulous sunny faces. All is contentment in your garden of birds, trees and flowers. A hint of perfume from your roses has wafted across the pond. Just divine. All is well.

Well done Patricia. paint a great picture.
and as a bonus, I learned something new, had to go google what are crepe myrtles? Was fairly certain we were not discussing breakfast on the Rivera, but...
and before you ask, no I'm not a gardener, and while I will remember that cm's are flowers, if you showed me one in 20 mins, even after having just looked at the pics on google I as likely to say "oh what a lovely rose" lol

Wow! So true and well said. You are welcome.
Although autumn where I live is still 45 days off or so, this has me caught up in the changing of the seasons and how the sometimes back breaking burden of Summer will eventually give way. Lovely write.
