Watermelon Days with Sunny Rays

Watermelon Days with Sunny Rays

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

Hot Summer Days where Children play along
the Shore where Seagulls fly above the Waves...
Sand dollars are worth more than nuggets of Gold
Picnic Baskets that Mothers brought with
Cold drinks and  sandwiches...
will now be replaced with Chrysanthemums
when Autumn arrives...  Amen

Dear Pat, you create the most beautiful memories, ones to hold close - as all the best ones are.
I recall times like that when the family was complete with splash and sun, picnic - Summer at its very best. Soon - as you rightly say, comes the Chrysanthemums, the depth of their colours - plus their perfume. For me there is nothing better than that .. its earthy, real and long, lasting wonderful!

Helpline busy.. wish I could give out a few bunches! Thank you for sharing yet another of your lovely poetry. Love to you and Roger, hoping time will be kind to you this week.

I used to sneak out of my house and go to the store and buy my mom Chrysanthemums with my babysitting money. It was so worth it, just to see the smile it brought to her face. Can you believe another summer is coming to a close? It truly fills this heart of mine with melancholy!

I hope there's some fried chicken in that picnic basket!

Dearest Pat.... i remember those precious moments at the beach building sand castles as the tide crept closer to our toes; picnics and colorful umbrellas to guard the sun....the summer always trotted along too quickly and before we knew it fall breezes and flowers were at our doorstep.... a welcome change!
Warmly, B

Such a gentle and heart warming portrayal of the changing of the seasons. There is a lingering memory of past warm days now changed to a cooler garden still filled with wonderful images but of a different sort. I found this poem very nostalgic in nature yet with such a glowing feel of the past. Lovely Pat just simply lovely.

Your work is always such a wonderful walk in a virtual garden. Sand dollars are worth more than their mercantile namesake ... I agree:)

Kisses are plentiful and needed for everything. You are welcome.
Patricia, your brevity speaks volumes of crisp emotions that warms one's ears and made me reach for some light that I could literally grasp and hold dear. So simple in verse, but profound in heart.
