Rotting Apples

Rotting Apples

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

The  apple tree is rotten
said the Red Queen to the
Black Knight

Oh no, it is only bleeding
so said the Black Knight
a band-aid will set it right

Said the Red Queen,
It is rotten and shall no
longer bear fruit

A band-aid is of no use
all the court jesters, magicians
cannot come together, there is no solution

And you Black Knight, you too have caused
much of the rot
you and your sorry lot

The jesters and magicians have no cure
this once majestic tree shall be
barren forever more , piped in the Raven

This tree did in her Spring  bring forth life,
liberty and the pursuit of happiness
for you, for me

The band-aid is no solution!
this once majestic tree is fallen
she is fallen -

Falling she is upon so many
loyal , faithful and true
subjects in colors of red, white and blue

And Johnny Appleseed is no more
the blood is seeping through the band-aid
no fruit does she bear

Said the Black Knight as he rode  away
on his apocalyptic colored horse
Nay, nay, nay this band aide will steel her course

The Red Queen wept

Author's Note

Chloe..Across the Universe
This is somewhat late but there is always tomorrow .. I for one (of many)
am sick of being a pawn and a statistic is this political trash!
Please do not take this as racist as it is not even though it has the colors red, black and white and blue ...America the beautiful , from sea to shining sea is bleeding ....
Time for a peaceful revolution or do we stand and wait for another shut down possibly in December, not pay the vets or military older citizens and disabled? Close the Statue of Liberty, snuff her light ! Such q sad sack of goofies!
Sorry for the writing of this have not written in a year...!
And rest in peace Lou Reed.

What a great metaphor you used for a political rant. Very clever. All the characters you threw in made the poem even better. Lou Reed is walking on the wild side now....and Marcia Wallace is still sitting behind the reception desk in Dr. Hartley's office. They left us too soon. Very enjoyable read, Chloe. Lydi**

Dear Chloe,

I certainly didn't take this as a racist poem. And there is enough blame to go around for both of the parties. But it is so disappointing that politics alone, and not the country'e welfare, seems to have taken the central seat in Washington. Yes, we have lost so much in recent years as a people and a nation. We are not the country I hoped we could be. Still, as a nation of fickle humans, such behavior is not unknown in the past. We have an ignoble heritage of stealing the country from the American Indians, slavery, followed by years of racial hatred, incarcerating the Japanese during WW II, many of which were US citizens (my father, a German national also spent 2 years in prison camp in South Dakota), and the McCarthy communism horror, to mention just a few. Nonetheless, we are off-track again and need to fix a lot of things. I join with the Red Queen in shedding more that a few tears.

Greatly enjoyed!
