Five Years Ago

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

I press my lips against your tiny head
I hold you close to my breast-mother's milk
You smell like Heaven
How did I have such a beautiful child?

Depending on me and only me
You can always depend on me
Mommy loves you so
I will keep you safe and warm

Showering you with all the love that lives
Within me where you grew for nine months
How excited I was to feel that first fleeting butterfly
Your tiny foot kicking inside made me so happy

How time passes by- blinking the sun
From my eyes you are one- two-three
Four - five - years ago on this day you came
Into my world -time passes too quickly

"Don't look at me", you say as you put
On your Spider Man undies
"I can do it ", you say when I say, let me
Help you with your shoes

The feelings are mixed-no longer so dependent
Upon me -you are growing up quickly
So quickly and you are my world
I know it will not be long- how can I let you go?

You will say, "This is the girl I want to marry
She looks like you, see"
I will nod and blink the tears away
So you will not see

I will watch you walk down the aisle
With your beautiful bride
No longer are you dependent upon me
You have her -your helpmate

I blink tears away as I look into your eyes
Once again a different day I hold you close
You smell like Heaven
Child of my child my love for you is forever

You can always call on me

Aww this brought happy tears to my eyes! I know they grow so fast! My little one is turning two soon and I wonder where is my little baby who loved to be held all the time! From one mom to another, I truly can feel the love for your son! Stunning poem!

the unshaken love of a mother that has the power to transcend all the earthly things ~ mothers are special goddesses apart from the others ~ creating future generations to come , sons and daughters blossoming within the deep open sky

Very tender and true, pure love, nothing can compensate mother's love, you portrayed well...

Nothing like a mother's love.... This is a beautiful tribute to your son, Chloe... Oh, just wait until is does walk down that aisle with his bride... But that's what we want for our kids...

'You will say, "This is the girl I want to marry
She looks like you, see"

Those lines got me...I am in tears, dear one. Remember, you are forever his mother. Quite the tender piece...

Wonderful poem Chloe, it made me cry! Such a soft pushover that I am. It made me think of mine, all but grown up now. I love them so so much, but we have to let them go eventually, but like your poem so beautifully expresses.

They can always call on their mothers.

Happy 5th Birthday to Donavon.
