Totem

Totem

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

I have an arrow in my heart
it is pierced without jewelery
Cupid put it there

I asked, Cupid why did you shoot
this arrow into me, my heart
he said , it is your totem

But a totem comes from the
Native Americans we stole
this country from

Oh, but you are wrong
partially - you see
we are all the same

The same- yes, same
you, me a myth they say
the Native Americans

We are all the same and
the arrow is your totem
a totem of love

How can I love everyone, Cupid
how can I not hate those who
murder and abuse , those evil faces

Cupid had no answer , I had won
you will learn in time love is love
hate is hate

How profound said I
not without a hint of sarcasm
you will learn in time

So I took my totem had no choice
love was my calling in words, in voice
I love the ugly, lovely, strong, weak

I love the rich, the poor
black, white, yellow and brown
I love the ones who hate

As you see I learned what Cupid meant
love is love and hate is hate
the line is thin

The totem is mine I hold it dear
love is what fuels me
what makes me uniquely me

This totem of love
I cherish- hold dear
I learned the difference

Between hate and love

Author's Note

Chloe..Across the Universe
it is what it is - my totem is an arrow of love
of course i don't love the evil faces, hate though
I do not it will come to them in time - their totem is not
as strong as mine - an arrow dipped in love .

I am Cherokee I have bee raised on and taught of my roots my Great Great grandma was a medicine woman but she was a Christian, she was Spanish and Cherokee her father full blooded Cherokee and her mother full blooded Spanish.. but I don't Believe in Totems the Totem is the same as
a horoscope or a spirit guide a totem animal. Jesus is what makes me
love and I don't hate as there's no love with hate can't even be
around it makes me sick I just pray for those I can't help and walk away.

But this was quite Interesting.

Thank you for sharing. Blessings. Kindred poet

When love reveals mystery within an answer, it's easy to get lost, yet found,
if there is such a thing, the totem reminds me of a flute, where each mote is
a description, this is a classic wonder, scarlet across the page :)

A thin line indeed. I love the content, it's very personal and almost prophetic. Wise words, and as always a wonderful read!
