Some Kids.

Some Kids.

A Poem by Paul Bell

Some kids are just never gonna make it

Not in this life anyway

At the age of six

You just knew

This kid was destined

Seven, eight, nine

To leave before his time

When the news came through

They lined us up in two’s

Told us what we knew

No counselling in that school

No, no, not in the rules

They just said it was his time

Plus, hanging was a crime

Punishment by the lord up high

Striking from the sky

Hate to be in his shoes

When the angels take him through

Probably send him back

To relive the vicious attacks

Years later they made arrests

Some took the easy way out

Hanging it seems

From the heavy beams

Was the religious dream

Wonder if they’ll be forgiven

Up in heaven

Couple of hail joes

For the fallen foes

They tell me this could never happen again

I was waiting for the amen

I passed the grave, today

Said the usual stuff

Some kids are just never gonna make it

Not in this life anyway

Not at the age of six, seven, eight, nine

But when we grew

We hung the few

Watched them die

An eye for an eye

An eye for an eye.

I read this and Syria comes to mind
But life is fair
Those kids of displacement will live the best life
And those who made them suffer
Will be punished by the normal course of life
Justice is stronger than anything

I like this piece
Made me think of so much

You maybe right. Justice has a habit of coming round.
Some kids are never gonna make it. Because life is unfair. The world doesn't give them a chance. People are callous and biased. I could go on. Sadly, there is little one can do to change the system. Someone has to be sacrificed every now and then. A profound and sad write, Paul.

Yeah, sometimes the world sucks.
yes ...the lost boys perhaps :( i knew such a one ...he was never quite right ..always a smudge somewhere ..a tear that was not sewn up to keep using ... other kids just did not seem to like him much ..left him alone ... something kept him from liking himself enough to join in our play .. i knew he was headed into the abyss in the fifth grade ..when he was in trouble and was going to have his knuckles rapped by Sister Sinister Francis John ... his name was Edward ..he jumped out of his seat ...pencil in hand and took a swing at that Nun with great deliberation ...as if he held a switch blade ... the shock and horror of such a thing about made the sky fall as he was promptly sent to Sissssssssssster Sssssssssssssssssssuperior Sinister .... i don't remember ever seeing him again ... but i wonder about him ...perhaps he is now retired and living large in the Keys ... or dead before his time ... you give me lots to think about Paul ...

Your welcome
because of background and environment, some kids just grow up too soon, and die too soon....it's a different world out there---some just don't have a chance---like Annette said, they fall through the cracks, and then into the abyss...

Yeah, kids just aren't allowed to be kids anymore.
Stark, important and profound thoughts. You are so right in this excellent poem/dirge Paul! We see it early on and then the child falls through every crack in a flawed system- until they explode and kill. Afterward people and family say, " I had no idea." It's time to get the "idea"- and fix it. " I passed the grave today"- multiple R.I.Ps...

You sometimes wonder if it'll ever get better.
To many don't want to interfere.
