Fun Run

Fun Run

A Poem by Paul Bell

Bad run
Good run
Felt good, slow time
Felt ill, knocked thirty seconds off best time
Night time pasta, prep meal
What a shocking run
Night on the town, wrecked
Knocked one minute off best time
My body's a nightmare
Just run, don't think
Okay, you're thinking
Push harder, maybe harder than that
The stopwatch is lying to you
New running shoes
The hills will make you stronger
Don't look at the mile signs
Keep a steady pace
Last two miles, push
Last mile, push a bit harder
The finish line
Your fun run is over
I don't see you laughing.

I especially enjoy all this sort of thing when someone else is doing it

I'm that idiot.
This is a very fun & truthful depiction of how some enthusiasts become obsessed with their sport & from the outside it may not look like that much fun. As a person who hiked hundreds of miles & biked thousands, I have to say I prefer doing it alone becuz so many times the other person can be like this. I don't care to focus on what I'm doing. I want to focus on what's around me. It's a totally different mindset & I never had it. Great details, I was feeling everything this guy was going thru! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

new sneakers help me run better on the tennis court...i tried the jogging thing...never worked for me...i have to be chasing a tennis ball to hit...but i admire runners and their persistence and endurance.

i also see this allegorically...in life we may get really reckless...and at the time it might seem a good idea...but the next day we are no longer laughing.

Like tennis, but trying to get one free here is like gold dust. Probably why I'm a frustrated runner.. read more
Just run :) really a simple take on a life long obsession.

...new running shoes...

Remember being a child and getting new sneakers made you run fast:) a truth that you had to show off to everyone.

New sneakers were gold, and had to be tested to the fore.
Does rewarding endeavor leave us laughing? I don't recall any of the most difficult things I've achieved making me laugh. Relief, a sense of accomplishment, even fulfillment, yes… Maybe later, thinking back on the endeavor at my leisure, I might laugh. Is laughter then leisure?
