Got The Tattoo

Got The Tattoo

A Poem by Paul Bell

Another failed relationship

She really should write a paper on love

Or love and where to find it

This would be her fifth failure

She really should get a tattoo to celebrate

Jenny was there

Seen it done it got the tattoo

Was it five years ago she told John she was in love with another

What were his words to her

If you’re really in love you need to pursue it

She should have got that tattoo also

Some lucky girl would be with John now

Tip, Jenny, some lucky girl

She arranged to meet Tilly for a drink

B***h about men and the world

Just b***h in general

Tilly was late

Tilly was always late

But she did spot an old familiar face

Hello John, long time no see

Jenny, how are you

Fine, I’m meeting Tilly, but she’s late as usual

Well, let me buy you a drink while you’re waiting

So how's things with you then, tell me you're married with two children and things couldn’t be better

No, I don’t have any children, but I’ve set a date to get married in July

Wow, fantastic hope you’ll both be very happy

I picked up the engagement ring earlier, what do you think

That is stunning, she’ll be ecstatic

Try it on, so I can see what it looks like

I can’t do that, is that not bad luck or something

Don’t be silly that's an old wives tale

Okay then, this might be the nearest I ever get to wearing an engagement ring. What do you think does it suit me

Suits you fine, I’ve booked the 23rd of July if you want to come

Aw, that’s nice it will be my pleasure to come to your wedding

Okay then see you on the 23rd

Eh, John, your fiancées ring, I think she’ll maybe want to see it

She’s wearing it dopey

She is

Tilly says she’ll ring you tomorrow, something about chief bridesmaids dresses she said

oh this was just cuteness, and I imagine the surprise on her face, and crazy that he took all that for granted, especially after blowing her doors the first time.

A great story with a surprise ending....very witty and clever. i had to read it a few times to get the names straight....but I love the dialogue and all the interaction among the crowd.....Its really a fun story but poetic too. Typical of men to buy drinks, engaged or not....I loved this piece Paul!

The font size immediately hinted a wilful surprise - you had a plan! Flowing phrases, character clear.. ring presented.. and ALL'S clear. What a super fine ending. Dry humour all through, charming about face at the finish. Clever man.

ARGHHHHHHH!
Moral of the story: Be careful around ex-boyfriends , especially those lurking around your drink!

aw this was so much fun, Paul...I admire your creative talent so much.
You surely can make a reader smile...and check his or her ring finger.

You need a smile in the times we live in. Has the election fever started or has everyone given up.
What a love story with a twist! That guy got some serious confidence! Appearing after 5 years with a ring straight! I wonder how she responds....Interesting!

But will it last in the love game.

May not last but a good time will be had for sure 😜
Most of the time I cannot imagine where your whimsical conversations might be going, but this one, I kinda guessed it before I got to the end, but that didn't spoil the fun a bit! This is a great bit of imagination & fun-loving spoof on all the different ways to lasso a spouse! This is "big week" here in Salinas Valley (the big California Rodeo is in town) so I'm sure some hearts are being roped an hour north of where I live . . . possibly some being hooked (or bronck'ed) for good! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
