The Dream

The Dream

A Poem by Paul Bell

He spotted the building in passing

So strange

It was the building in his dream

The little round windows

Even the flower beds

The gargoyles looking down, so frightening he thought

That strange looking door

So medieval, uninviting

He remembered in his dream

The hidden pathway

Leading to the tunnel into the house

Waiting patently for the man to appear

Feeling tense when he did

He woke with a jolt

Wiping the sleep from his eyes

Looking around, wondering

The clock frowned

Time was on the move

It was at the news-stand

Where he noticed it

The headline flyer

With the words standing out

Prominent politician assassinated

So strange

It was just exactly like his dream.

Dear Paul,

This was so surreal! You build up the mood to the climax so well and then it comes like boom and hits the mind! Loved it.

I haven't seen you for quite some time. I hope you're well. Your friends miss your very distinctive poetry. Here's hoping you look in soon.

Stay safe and well and have a great weekend!

Hi Paul, good to find you here. I don't post poems at My Poetic Side any more - I prefer it here. Interesting poem. Can some dreams be premonitions? Some people think so. I keep an open mind. The subject makes for an intriguing story anyway!

Tension building from the beginning. Beads of sweat waiting for the twist. Locked in from the start. Satisfied. Great work.

Vivid yet subtle...! I just love your words' way of keeping the breath till the end.. I (and all the readers, I guess) get carried away with this dream.

There are stranger things in Heaven and Earth, (Mine was about planes crashing in San Diego.). --- This was written very well, I especially Liked "The Clock Frowned". --- Thanks for the read.

I love this narrative, which evokes so much eerie sensations of mood. You are the master of building mood in your short pieces! (((HUGS)))
