Careening

Careening

A Poem by Paul Velora

The night's as reticent as I feel
Hanging back, aloof
The moon's mostly closed, red eye
Seems sick of watching us
Wasteful, ungrateful, boring you and I.

I would not have moved
I would not have breathed
Or been able to lift a foot
But you held us up

The night can keep its secrets
Hanging back, aloof
The moon will be back, clear-eye
Interested in our fates again
Agreeable, hopeful, boring you and I.
