A poem... about poetic styles.

I can go from nonsense,

To nonce.

It’s very concrete

And sometimes I’m not discrete.

 

I can do a prose poem…

And I do it for all of ‘em.

Truly I enjoy free verse,

Keeps me from going reverse.

 

Yes I am very found…

And of course, found poetry.

And for an eulogy…

I can do an elegy.

 

If I’m not feeling that sad…

I may write a ballad.

If I drop like a comet,

Then… maybe a sonnet.

 

If I happen to reload…

Can write you an ode.

May feel ecstasys…

Write you an ekphrasis.

 

May have the syndrome…

Of the palindrome.

I enjoy oral…

Go for a golden shovel.

 

I am a true sinner…

So maybe a sestina.

If I met Azazel…

Maybe he could teach me ghazal.

 

What’s in it for you?

Do you wish a haiku?

Don’t be a prick…

Maybe a limerick.

 

Or maybe an acrostic…

If you happen to be so gnostic.

Don’t be a sceptic…

Write something epic.

If such are the times,
some nursery rhymes...
My name could be Peter,
In iambic pentameter.

 

Once and for all…

Let’s do some pastoral.

Or we may go to Hell…

For some rondel.

 

And don’t forget the paradelle…

And the villanelle.

Well, well, well,

We may tell.

 

For a commence…

Maybe a blank verse.

For those with disdain…

Why not a dizain?

 

Or play Russian roulette…

While listening to a triolet.

If you really want to gain…

Try some cinquain.

 

Too much for a few?

Why not a clerihew?

Telling stories…

Not exactly new.

 

Of course there is rhyme, scheme, meters and rhythms…

Poetic structure, for all moods, gals and dudes.

 

Look man… I do…

What I do.

Like it or not.

It’s up to you!

Wow!!! I definitely enjoyed reading this poem. You do a marvelous job at putting in a little defintion of each poetry form in this piece! So lovely, you include Acrostic,epics, Sonnet, Limericks, Sestina's, Haiku's and so much more including poetic terms! I love, love, love this! You are very witty and creative when it came to rhyming some of these forms such as "prick /limerick". Thanks for sharing, I definitely enjoyed reading!

One of the freedoms of poetry. All those different forms, and sooner or later we find those or that one that suits us well, and then we can tell

or lives in verse---terse or flowing, it's knowing we can...

Truth be spoken there are many of these different styles... I've never really tried.

Just thought it would be fun to write a poem about the many different poetic styles.

Quite possible I've missed some...
