Historical Distortions

Controlling life pendulums peak extremes

Twisting their versions of historical events

And precedent vague obtuse perceptions

Lay contingent on factual precise witness

Crucifixion the price of teaching passion

And liberty a concession of an isolated few

The prospect of sharing same status dies

Denying equal access to innumerable souls

Where one owned a commodity for gain

Another suffered an involuntary servitude

Indigenous honouring all nature’s offerings

Were raped and ploughed into the earth

Acts of violence negating social equality

Are crude divisive utensils of extremists

Thus to shame fake humanity distortions

Freedom of speech is a righteous device

Editing or erasing regrettable past poignancies

Cannot rectify hidden long suffering atrocities

Better to interpret them as lessons to address

And teach fresh generations not to emulate

When opposing representations of realities

Are laid bare within a fair open convention

Sequential validity will be nakedly exposed

And reconciliation may finally be discussed

Everything must change for equality to exist

Beginning with the recognition all lives matter

Embracing diversity and resolution to forgive

At every level in our global neighbourhood

I think reconciliation may actually, "finally be discussed"--
this will not go away, and nor should it.
we have to have equality....strove for it so many years ago, and seemed like we were heading in that direction, but somewhere we got on an off ramp, and kept going in the wrong direction.
powerful piece of writing, Phill,

Powerful piece.
We need to strive for equity. Who knows if equality will exist in our lifetime with how deeply engraved so many biases are, but everyone needs to strive for it. We need to all do better, listen closely, shift paradigms.
Black lives matter

Seems the happenings since late February to now has set people's thoughts on full throttle. So much of what you point out so sharply, ' Editing or erasing regrettable past poignancies - Cannot rectify hidden long suffering atrocities - Better to interpret them as lessons to address - And teach fresh generations not to emulate ' for instance, stands defiantly.. and that's how it should be.. respect for what's happening but not as n invader but an enemy that needs facing.. however.. somehow.. a game with roast chestnuts swinging on twine.. til the one is sent flying off and gone.. Perhaps??

Your writing inevitably strikes a pose and invites reviewers to think a while, then have his or her own say - have tried, but need stop else will bore you to tears. Thank you for your words, yet again. .

Yes, “Everything must change for equality to exist”. A true and powerful poem my friend. Your every line is so on-point and filled with heart-felt conviction. You reach out to all of our better selves to emerge and conquer the ills that beset this earth. It’s a rally cry to act so that no more will “liberty” be “a concession of an isolated few”. As my country mourns another shooting and death now, I pray that we can all realize simply that “ black lives matter”, as do all lives on all levels. Dear Phill, I thank you and say a humble amen to your words, and pray for change...
