I just maxed out my credit cards shopping for presents, Merry Christmas....oh wait, no. That is not what it is about. I remember in my youth serving Midnight Mass, then we would get to come home and open one present, a small one...always meant a lot. Then we would drive around town and look at the decorations.
The night was so special...that one night....and the week after.
Now that commercialism and greed has take over, the nativity is almost irrelevant, trees are all fake and the sentiment is skewed.
You have expressed so much in these three lines...I cried and cheered at the same time...just that you said it.

Greatly written and painfully true! It’s hard to love Christmas and all it stands for when it’s hidden behind commercials, advertisements, and even things like lights, turkey, presents. It goes well with Christmas but do people even really think about what Christmas is anymore? Where it actually and truly came from? Thank you so much for sharing this, because even with all the lessons about spending time with your family for the holidays, which is important too, the real meaning of Christmas is it’s whole own thing. I loved this piece and how you executed so well and how honest it is.

A stunning image Phill to accompany the truth of your senryu. I reflect on Christmas as it used to be when I was young. It was a time to celebrate the birth of Christ. It is so commercial these days and the woke brigade would like Christmas cancelled altogether, because it isn't inclusive enough. Times have changed. All good wishes to you.
I am caught in a time spiral of confusion; that period we all experience between birth and death.
