Cigarette Burns

Cigarette Burns

A Poem by Phillip J Clayton

Apologies are over!

Who are you?

One spoonful at a time;

Drag you out no one can hear you.

Cut you a pretty smile;

Serpent knives;

Hope creeping away;

Empty eyes;

Starving anger;

feeding hate!

Your finger!

Only here for a time;

Break your neck;

If only for a moment of peace.

Against a glass;

Smashed memories;

Tear a hole!

Tension grows old;

It's all been said, nothing left.

Every step;

Every breath;

The further gone;

Relentless past.

She went silent;

Her ghost;

Bring me home;

This will rot!

Festering.

To whom it may concern...

Born to carry roses;

A funeral calls.

In the professional space, I am almost a diety... I say that with the greatest of humility. In my personal life I am frail and a primitive man... Self-actualization is not all it's cracked up to be. .. more..
