"If I won't sleep and skip my med's tonight"

A Poem by Ngoc M. Nguyen
"

The dark and painful testament of a victim of bipolar disorder, also known as manic-depression.

"

If I won't sleep and skip my med's tonight

against my doctor's warning, I'll then hear

the fearful voices echo low but clear,

harassing me,--trust me, it's no delight!

When I'm bipolar I fail to comply

and then mania is suddenly here;

then my frightened family--out of fear--

call the cops to admit me as I cry, Why!?

Life with bipolar disorder feels tragic:

it's a trial by fire, a hard test!

At times this dark disease makes me frantic

with madness, rapture, and profound unrest

so dangerous: (I am a god when manic!)

delusions then o'erwhelm me and arrest!
