Lies....

Lies....

A Poem by Tori Jones

Without water we wilt
Without light we shrivel up
For we were never built
To go through life all alone
But were created
To strive for hope

When people speak life
We grow in faith
When people criticize
We are discouraged
And waste our lives
Thinking we aren't valuable
And feel like we need to change
Our ways
To be able to say
I am loved
And have a reason to stay
Here on earth
For at least one more day

We should never listen to the lies
That are built up inside
For most of the time they aren't
The truth at all
But rather the devil
Tearing us down
Until Jesus shows up
And breaks our fall
For he loves us
And that is all
Any of us will ever need
To be complete
But then we become discreet
From waiting for him to come
And stray from the path of life
And wander off in the sea alone

We become deflated
And defeated
Depressed and weak
And instead of living
We start to sink
Thinking that we are merely
A piece of trash
Thrown away
And stepped on by other people
but really
We are children of God
A beloved creation
That He will never give up on
We need to understand
That He is waiting on us to believe in him again

No matter what we look like
Not matter what we've done
We have not yet lost
But rather won
For God is on our side
And has given us the will to fight
Taking away our fright
We will not decay into the night
But rise up high
Until we reach the sky
Where we will live with God
For the rest of our lives....

This is a touching poem . . . it's true and profound in its message. This poem is a departure from your usual writings, in that most of them are melancholic, but I enjoy this piece just as much as I do your other ones ~ if not more.

I especially enjoyed the first stanza because of its beauty and simplicity . . . the lines "For we were never built / To go through life all alone" had a certain resonance with me . . . they fit in so well after the first two lines. The rest of the piece was of similar quality.

Although I'm not a Christian, this piece touched me with its message. Thanks for sharing.
